Job title     Transportation Manager
Reports to    Director of Distribution & Operations

Job Purpose

Responsibilities include executing, directing, and coordinating shipments in and out of the organization. Oversees truck maintenance and driver training.

Duties and Responsibilities
•    Performs load planning, driver scheduling and dispatch duties to result in the most efficient and effective method of delivery.
•    Update and maintain accurate dispatch schedules on an ongoing basis.
•    Continually monitors, prioritizes and manages load schedule changes and responds in a timely and effective manner.
•    Responsible for the selection of carriers and negotiation of carrier pricing agreements for all TL and LTL carriers.
•    Utilize various modes of domestic and international shipping, small parcel (UPS, FedEx, etc.).
•    Utilize transportation software to perform tasks and manage data.
•    Track shipments from pickup to delivery.
•    Communicate and problem solve with drivers as issues arise.
•    Works with safety department on driver compliance and HOS issues and appropriately follows-up with corrective action.
•    Approves driver expense reports to ensure accuracy and appropriateness in a timely manner.
•    Recommends, writes, and implements policies related to the freight and drivers.
•    Enforces all company policies and procedures related to freight and drivers.
•    Responsible for all freight administration requirements including freight bill review, filing claims with carriers, researching issues, etc.
•    Understand the trends in the transportation industry and continually review and pricing carrier performance and pricing
•    Produce Weekly/Monthly reports and analyze data, identifies trends and reports results to Director of Distribution and Operations.
•    Analyze freight costs efficiencies at all satellite locations to make improvements.
•    Acts as backup for the Warehouse manager in their absence.
•    Coordinates and schedules truck and trailer maintenance/inspections regularly, reports are retained, and necessary repairs are handled expediently.

•    Strong attention to details and follow-up skills.
•    Perform job duties with a sense of urgency.
•    Ability to work in an ever-changing environment with ongoing interruptions
•    Extremely organized and strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up
•    Expertise in Transportation Management processes and best practices
•    Experience with truck sourcing, vendor negotiations, logistics

Physical Requirements
•    Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
•    Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
